Last year’s keynote speaker was James Nevels, founder of The Swarthmore Group. Jim’s speech was so captivating that we’re inviting him back to once again address our members. Last year Jim shared with us his life lessons learned over a 40-year career, namely: forge relationships, act with integrity, and serve others, be they clients, boards, or volunteer organizations. This year we look forward to hearing Jim’s sage insights on the current environment. Jim founded The Swarthmore Group in 1991, serves as its Chairman, and has more than forty years of experience in the securities and investment industry. In addition to his “day job,” Jim serves on the Board of Directors of three public companies including First Data, Alcoa Corporation, and as Lead Independent Director of WestRock. He was appointed by President Bush to the Advisory Committee to the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation and served a three year term, 2004-2007, included that of Chairman from 2005-2007. He also served as Chairman (2009-2015) and Lead Independent Director (2015-2017) of The Hershey Company. Jim is a member of the Board of the Hershey Trust Company and Milton Hershey School, Chair and member of the Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, member of the Board of XL Group, member of the Board of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, member of the Board of MMG Insurance Company and member of the Board of Tasty Baking Company. He is an honors (cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa) graduate of Bucknell University, and holds an A.B. degree in Political Science and Philosophy, a M.B.A. degree from The Wharton School, the University of Pennsylvania, and a J.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. We’re thrilled for the opportunity to hear Jim’s current pearls of wisdom in this new environment.
